Meet Billy Bones.

He's dead.

Literally.

Finding himself in the Afterlife, ten year old Billy must wait to be recycled back into the Livingworld. Meanwhile, he's stuck trying to figure out how he's supposed to survive in this backwards existence where sunlight burns, the dead are living, and the memories of his past lives are stored in a secret book.

The problem is that Billy's has been stolen, and now he has to find it and discover why the dreaded Reaper is after him.

Choose for Billy and help him find his way through the Afterlife in this new "Choose-Your-Own-Demise" novel.

David H. Burton is a pure genius. Why you ask? Well... because he came up with a great idea to get kids to read! I'll tell you more in just a second, so pull up a chair and keep reading...

In lieu of chocolates, roses, and cards

I don't celebrate Valentine's Day. It's silly to me. Why do I need to tell my significant other, family, and friends that I love them one day of the year just because the calendar tells me so? Why can't I tell them every single day of the year if the meaning is there?  I feel, if your significant other, family, and friends truly loved you, they'd show, say, and express it all the time - not try to make it up to you one day of the year when Hallmark, Hershey's, and flower shops make their most money.

Wow! I just read J.A. Konrath's blog and I'm sitting here with my mouth agape, astonished. That man never ceases to amaze me. Seriously! Not only does he churn out some really hot best sellers, he's been professionally published and yet, STILL, chooses to self-publish making, $100,000 in just 3 weeks. That's AH-MAY-ZING! I can only hope to sell that many books some day.

Which gets me to thinking ...

Dark Corners by Liz Schulte

Dark Corners is a fast-paced mystery that will keep you on the edge of your seat and take your emotions on a roller coaster ride. You will meet Ella Reynolds. Ella has become one of my very favorite characters to write. She is snarky and stubborn, but soft and gooey deep inside--though she wouldn't appreciate my saying so. She is a mass of contradictions: strong and fragile, tough and soft, funny and sad, alone but surrounded by ghosts. Her husband's murder changed everything for Ella and this is the story about leaving the past to find a future.

As a reader I'm always looking out for the next best read. A book that will captivate me and hold my attention. A book that I will want to read again and again because it allows me to escape from reality. I've found a couple of books like that, but then I've read a couple of books that I toss gently to the side, vowing to never even look at the cover let alone read again.

As a reader I do allow reviews to sway my decision-making process. If I see a book with a hundred great reviews, and maybe only one bad review, I'll sample the book to see if it'd be something I'd be interested in. Sometimes it is, sometimes it isn't. It's more often than not that a bad review will push me over the edge to hit that One-Click option, more than a good review will.
